When is an Ice Hotel Not an ICEHOTEL ?
Sweden may be home to the original ICEHOTEL but Lapland boasts many more of these seriously cool types of accommodation. Norway, Sweden and Finland are all front runners in the ice hotel crusade.
SWEDEN, August 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sweden opened its doors to its first guests at the magnificent ICEHOTEL in 1992 and since then, Scandinavia has become a popular location for remarkable winter breaks. Travellers looking for an extraordinary adventure in one of the ice hotels can book a stay at the Kirkenes Snow Hotel and Alta Ice Hotel in Norway, Finland's Lainio Snow Village and Sweden's ICEHOTEL . Previously, many of the ice hotels have only been available to book from January onwards, however, Lainio Snow Village can now be booked from the 10th December and the Kirkenes Snow Hotel can be booked from the 15th December.
Each of these artistic wonders is built each year by ingenious architects so no stay in an ice hotel will ever be the same. Charismatic lighting illuminates intricate ice sculptures and impressive ice rooms allow guests to experience the definitive Arctic adventure. Relax in the evening in one of the trendy bars, no need for drinks on the rocks when the glasses are carefully carved out of ice! When you retire to your frozen bed, insulating reindeer hides and sleeping bags will allow you to have a comfortable night's sleep.
Lapland's magical ice hotels can be found nestled among pristine Arctic scenery which comprises snow-cloaked forests, glassy lakes and sparkling fells, and the clean, crisp air makes outdoor activities in the snow even more pleasurable in these winter wonderlands. Guests staying at ice hotels can take part in many exhilarating pursuits; zip through the striking countryside on a dynamic snowmobile safari, let an energetic pack of huskies draw you along on a sledge or even try your luck with a spot of customary ice fishing.
And now, for the first time, the ICEHOTEL in Sweden is open to the public during the summer between the months of June and August, when the phenomenal Midnight Sun graces the area with its presence for 100 consecutive days. A scaled down version of the hotel includes three fantasy Art Suites and an ABSOLUT ICEBAR, and there's even a room where guests can develop ice sculpting skills. So, "how is this possible?" I hear people ask. The Art Suites will be situated inside the Art Centre which, in turn, will be enclosed in gigantic slabs of ice. Now there is no need to wait until the New Year to book a room at one of the world's most extraordinary hotels.
